Kamen Rider Agito
Kamen Rider best translates to "masked rider." Kamen Rider Agito, a tokusatsu TV show, first aired in January 2001 and lasted 51 episodes. It was followed by a movie called "Project G4" and a TV special. This was the first of the Kamen Rider series to have 3 masked riders featured as main characters.
A number of murders take place in the Tokyo area that have police baffled. The culprits turn out to be a group of mysterious creatures called the Unknowns. Against this force stand 3 masked riders. Shoichi Tsugami, a man with no memories of his past who transforms to become Kamen Rider Agito to protect his new home and those he loves; the Tokyo police’s G3 armor and its support unit; and the ferocious rider, Gills, who seeks the truth behind his father’s strange suicide after boarding a cruise liner.
Why are the Unknowns targeting members of the same families? What’s the connection with that fateful cruise liner? Can the 3 masked riders find enough common ground to join forces against the Unknowns? Furious battles and chases ensue as the heroes protect the human race.
Unlike most of the Masked Riders from the series, the G3 is a powersuit developed by the police department for fighting the "Unknown" monsters. Despite the fact that the G3 is ten times more powerful than a normal human and can be equipped with various weapons it still takes a lot of effort to beat a common Unknown. The G3 is considered the weakest Masked Rider. It’s later replaced by the more powerful G3-X but still used in some operations. On the left forearm is a "G-Com" communicator device that can access the police’s database. The "G-Buckle" on the belt displays the current level of the battery pack. The G1 and G2 were experimental models that never saw combat.
The G3’s operator uses this motorcycle to increase mobility and store most weapons. It’s equipped with various sensors and an infrared camera. The concept art (shown here) features a silver-blue color scheme but it’s white-blue in the series.
This electro magnetic stick is a key for the Guard Chaser and a weapon too. There is a socket on the G3’s left leg armor to hold it.
A pistol equipped with a tracking scope for better accuracy. Its attack power is not impressive but the good rate of fire makes up for it.
A grenade launcher attachment for the Scorpion.
A high frequency sword used in close combat. Worn on the forearm.
An anchor hook. While not exactly a weapon it is nonetheless an important tool. The hook is attached with titanium wire and on the G3’s arm.
While the G3 seems impressive it’s actually not that effective against the Unknown monsters. Osawa Sumika, the G3’s developer, developed a new and more advanced powersuit based on the G3 called the G3-X. A new feature is the assist AI chip. This chip is supposed to help its operator in combat. However, this feature is also the suit’s main flaw. The chip doesn’t properly take into account the operator’s condition. Thus, the operator can quickly become exhausted. Sometimes the operator will grow faint and the G3-X will continue moving on its own. This flaw became a problem when the G3-X suit competed with the V1, a candidate to replace the G3. The V1’s operator pointed a gun at the G3-X to taunt Hikawa Makoto (the G3-X’s operator). This made Hikawa upset and the G3-X went berserk. The G3-X fought and dispatched the V1 barehanded and then left the test facility to destroy a detected Unknown monster with ease. It even attacked Masked Rider Agito but soon collapsed as Hikawa had reached his physical limits. Tsugami Shoichi (Agito) proves that he can operate the G3-X without problem, but this may be due to his unusual character (some say Tsugami has a "pure heart." Some say the G3-X is actually too perfect to be used by imperfect beings like humans. Osawa later replaces the AI chip with a modified one to resolve this problem. The modified version of G3-X is slighly weaker but still good enough to defeat several Unknowns, including some powerful ones. The Unknowns were amazed to see such power demonstrated by common humans. A GK-06 "Unicorn" electro-magnetic combat knife is added for close combat, held on the left thigh armor.
A multipurpose weapon. The barrel part can fold in order to attach to the Guard Chaser. It’s usually used as a powerful gatling gun that fires specially coated bullets. It also docks with the GM-01 to fire a high explosive grenade. This is the most powerful weapon in G3-X’s arsenal. The high explosive grenade has power equal to Masked Rider Agito’s finish move "Rider Kick".
This powersuit appeared in the movie "Project G4". It’s a military model developed by the Japan Defense Force based on stolen data of the G3-X. Since it’s based on the first version of the G3-X, it’s more powerful than the improved G3-X. The assist AI is even more dangerous. While it never goes berserk, several operators die during G4’s developement and only one survives. The G4 even tries to continue fighting after the operator’s death. G4 was seen using only 2 weapons. First is a pistol similar to the GM-01 and the other is a 4-rocket launcher that can kill several Unknowns in one salvo. The G4 is powerful enough to kill Unknowns barehanded. Another dangerous feature is the Prediction System. The JDF captures Kirishima Mana (a girl with high psychic power) and hypnotize her to develop the Prediction System. They manage to use her power to generate a very accurate vision of future events, then transfer this information to the G4. This is a deadly ability, allowing the G4 to fight Agito and the G3-X at the same time and win. The JDF had plans to mass produce the G4 powersuit and do a commercial run but the Prediction System brings large numbers of Unknowns to the developement facility. After this terrible attack none of the project staff survive.
